An Overview of the oft-mentioned Fence Project

This is the outline of the fence that is kept up to date as sections are replaced. Fifty sections about 4 meters long plus 4 gates, one of which is a pedestrian gate. It can be seen from the traffic like symbols that the top fence, which is on the road side of the property needs only two more sections to be replaced. These will be done when we return to Doubravice in the Spring of 2013.
On average, each section requires about 35 palings 110 cms high fastened to the two 10 x 4 cms beams with screws. The picture below shows Phil cutting the tops of the palings at 45º for one of the sections he helped to build and install. The beams are set in steel U-supports embedded in the posts. The posts along the road are mostly the original stone posts from generations ago.
This year, 2011, it was necessary to replace the lower gate posts, which seemed unable to support the weight of the new gates which were fabricated and installed last year. The lower gate can be seen at the right of the picture.
